Solana Mobile Developing More Affordable Smartphones Compared to Saga

A less costly replacement to the Solana Saga is allegedly planned. This comes after purchasers harvested bundled airdrops and tokens after the original phone went out of stock.

Solana Mobile intends to unveil a follow-up to its Saga smartphone using a less expensive price point.

An individual familiar with this matter said that the new smartphone is going to comprise various hardware while integrating similar crypto-friendly features contained in the original Saga smartphone.

A decentralized application (Dapp), a built-in crypto wallet, and custom Android software are examples of these features.

Solana Mobile and OSOM, an Android development company, created the original Solana Saga as a moonshot’. On its launch in May last year, it was priced at $1000. A review by a media platform referred to it as a ‘premium Android flagship.’

However, the device’s sales were previously disappointing, with the company reducing Saga’s price by $400 after being on sale for four months.

Demand for Solana Saga Smartphone Overtakes Supply

At that time, Anatoly Yakovenko, Solana’s co-founder, claimed it must hit 25,000 to 50,000 units. This will enable them to feel the presence of a hardcore user base for developers to be obliged to ship applications.

Nevertheless, a rise in the popularity of Solana-founded meme coins like BONK that were bundled with the Saga device increased the interest in this device in the latter part of last year. By last month, the Saga was out of stock as crypt traders established that the bundled BONK tokens’ worth was higher compared to the device.

A Solana Labs representative told a media platform about their intention to keep listing to the community to acquire an understanding of this demand, currently and in the future, and evaluate what comes afterwards.

Feature of Crypto-Oriented Smartphones

Later, Saga owners experienced a series of airdrops. In this case, they got tokens and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) whose present floor price is more than $1000 on secondary marketplaces.

BONK’s price plummeted to a level where the worth of the 30 million tokens bundled with Saga devices is under $420. However, unopened Saga phones keep commanding high prices on marketplaces, for instance, eBay.

A media platform contacted Solana for comment. The article will be revised in case a response is provided.
