Pirate Nation Chief Envisages Thousands of Dedicated Crypto Game Blockchains
Following utilizing 64 databases to back Farmville, Proof of Play’s chief anticipates equivalent scaling strategies with blockchains.
Amit Mahajan, Proof of Play’s chief and founder, envisages that there will be a high number of dedicated blockchains that back individual applications. This comes following his experience developing Farmville, a viral Facebook game. When creating the casual farming simulator, he managed nearly 64 databases to avert the game’s crashing. Mahajan believes the blockchain is simply an improved database.
Pirate Nation Shift to Abritrum
At peak, Farmville had nearly 30 million everyday active users. Hence, scaling a game to that evoked the need to have nearly 64 databases. He also noted that they are utilizing the chain as their data store. Thus, scaling to any number of actual usage evokes the need to divide transactions across chains.
Earlier, Pirate Nation was developing on Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network. However, increasing Polygon gas fees compelled it to shift to Arbitrum Nover. Additionally, the project encountered a problem depending on shared networks as a new project unveiling could boost gas fees for everybody.
In February, Pirate Nation considered the likelihood of using Arbitrum to unveil chains for itself as well as other developers. The initiative is referred to as Multichain. Pirate Nation is currently sailing on Apex, its application-exclusive chain. According to the founders, it is the only rational future for the rest of the applications.
Mahajan noted that immediately one is an application with any scale level, predictably controlling gas costs is mandatory. He predicted numerous chains would exist as people separate from the shared layer-2s to app-explicit chains.
The pattern has already been witnessed in several blockchain platforms. Shrapnel and Off the Grid are developing on Avalanche using their dedicated subnets. Treasure is developing its Arbitrum-founded Treasure Chain, which will entail dedicated gaming networks.
Mahajan noted that since unveiling its app-specific chain, Pirate Nation has begun filling up the chain with transactions. He said they have attained Apex’s capacity. Scaling the game will entail adding the B-chain, C-chain, and D-chain. Further, more chains will be added in the future.
According to Mahajan, the inclusion of more chains is a new riff on a similar premise of requiring scalable architecture to back up growing games. He has worked for Zynga from 2009 to 2011. In Web3, developers are more concerned by the increasing fees due to congestion.
When Pirate Nation was on Polygon, the firm claimed it was paying gas fees of up to $40000 daily to abstract them away from players. According to Mahajan, unveiling four or more chains to run a single crypto game can benefit the extra muscle. He noted that running 64 databases for Farmville was inconvenient for them since they were the first to do it. However, it later becomes a product.
Again, Mahajan utilizes Web2 to place this into perspective. For products such as Facebook to be developed, ideas such as caching and load balancing had to be created.
Dedicated Players
Pirate Nation’s growth plans come following the launch of the PIRATE token last month. Its listing on Coinbase caused a rise in the value of Ethereum. However, price is not what the founder is considering when it comes to the token’s unveiling. He intended to focus on the 80% of claimed PIRATE tokens presently staked by users.
Staking these tokens enables users to earn Proof of Play points that promise to unlock extra benefits in the ecosystem. To some extent, the high percentage is linked to PIRATE tokens not being locked when staked and permitting users to spend without consequences.
To the founder, the staked tokens’ significant percentage is a bet of confidence by the community. It also indicates that the game is not attracting farmers intending to dump the token.
The second World Boss event will happen in the coming months, and players will cooperate to triumph over bosses. Additionally, it will be the most significant event ever witnessed by Pirate Nation. The network might be strained, particularly with developers anticipating a second chain to divide transactions.
